ALBERT ON THE BUBBLE, SAY CREATORS AT COMIC CON
According to creators Jack Allison & Evan Susser, the UCB Theatre has cut the first season of Albert short and the future of the series is uncertain. The pair made the announcement at the Albert panel at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday, accompanied by series stars Joe Hartzler (AN AMERICAN CAROL, THE TWITTER SHOW), Fiona Perry (DIAGNOSIS: DEAD OR ALIVE, THE PRINCESS AND THE PONY), and Alana Johnston (THAT'S SO WEIRD). "I'm just happy we ever got to make this show in the first place," said a somber Susser. "And I'm overjoyed I got to meet you guys, the fans," added Hartzler to the huge crowd gathered for the panel.

The series, which stars Joe Hartzler as a vaguely Western European man who is forced to care for his 10-year-old niece Emmy (Perry), got off to a strong start, but since then has suffered diminishing returns.

There is a ray of hope for Albert, however, as fans of the show have started a Save Albert campaign, encouraging fans to Tweet their support of the show, sign an online petition to save it, and even send the UCB Theatre bicycles to show their unwavering support. The effort, located at www.savealbert.com, might be too little too late, thinks star Joe Hartzler. "These things happen," said Hartzler. "Barring some miracle, we're anticipating that this is going to be the last Albert. And we're pulling out all the stops." He paused, then, with a glimmer in his eye, added, "But if anyone can make miracles happen, it's our fans."

"I really believed in Albert," said Neil Campbell, President of the UCB Theatre, "I still do. But the fact is, the show has had the time to connect with an audience and it hasn't been able to. We just can't afford to put on a show for an audience this size." He added that the show was likely to sell out very quickly, and everyone should buy tickets early.

The remaining two episodes of Albert are written by Allison & Susser, and directed by new addition Courtney Davis. Betsy Sodaro (ANIMAL PRACTICE) guests stars.
