Lauren Weedman

Lauren Weedman is an award winning solo theatre artist who’s work has spanned into film, television, radio and most recently a published book-“A Woman Trapped in a Woman’s Body”. Lauren Weedman made her television debut on Comedy Central's Emmy Award-winning The Daily Show With John Stewart in 2001 as a featured Correspondent. It was at that same time that Lauren was a regular on NPR's national political satire show Rewind, and appeared in her solo show Homecoming, Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre. The New York Times said of Lauren and HOMECOMING, “Like Bob Newhart in his early stand-up routines, she's particularly good at making her points – and making us feel clever. Most important, she's just plain funny, physically and verbally.” Homecoming was featured at HBO's U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado and was published in “Women Playwrights: The Best Plays of 2002.” For two years, Lauren was also a cast member for the long-running local-turned-national comedy-show Almost Live for Comedy Central. In the fall of 2002, The Empty Space Theatre in Seattle premiered her solo work Rash, which was recognized by The Seattle Times' Footlight Awards, with nods for both Best New Play and Best Solo Performance. Lauren has been featured on multiple episodes of Reno 911 for Comedy Central and has appeared as a lead character along with Eddie Griffin in Pryor Offenses, a half-hour pilot for Showtime based on Richard Pryor's life. In 2009 she'll be featured in the new Eddie Murphy Movie Nowhereland and she can be seen on all the I LOVE THE (fill in the blank) shows for VHONE.
One of her works, Wreckage, was selected for The NOW Theatre Festival at the REDCAT Theatre at The Disney Music Hall.
Lauren’s most recent work Bust was commissioned by Seattle’s Empty Space Theatre in 2005-the year Lauren began her work as a volunteer with the organization “Friends Outside” a service to inmates at the California Correctional Institute for women-also known as Twin Towers. She continues to tour Bust in the US and it was named “Best in the Arts” by Seattle Weekly, Seattle Times, and Boise Weekly and put her on the cover of the LA weekly. Last year, she was a finalist for the Alpert Award of the Arts and received a fellowship at the MacDowell Colony.
