Solo Theater - Creating and Staging Your Own Work

Using improv games, a variety of storytelling techniques, character work and writing exercises to help mine and develop material for your first or your 8th solo show. Our goal will be to avoid the clichés and find personal unique ways to tell our stories. This class will result with you having the tools to get you started in developing the kind of show that people that hate solo theater will love.

Prerequisite: Completion of Improv 201

Maximum class size is 15

Lauren Weedman is a solo theater performer who for the past 15 years has been writing and performing autobiographical based solo theater pieces that have toured around America. After a national tour her first solo show based on her adoption and her mother’s search for her birth-mother-“Homecoming” went off-Broadway in and was included in a Smith and Krauss’s ‘Best Women Playwrights” series. All of her award winning solo shows “Amsterdam”, “RASH”, “Wreckage”, “If Ornaments and Lips” and “Bust” have toured and been produced in theaters across America.

She was a correspondent for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and regular on the NPR political satire show “Rewind” and can be seen on RENO 911 and a variety of the VH1 “I Love the---" shows. She is currently writing a new book of essays – “Wigs on a Baby” and a pilot based on her book “A Woman Trapped in a Woman’s body” for Fox.
